small flowers of Iceland

I travelled to Myvatn, Iceland to learn moer about the ecology of the area. i stayed in the nature research station, and this image was made on a field excursion where we were counting ducklings. As it had been a cold spring and summer, there were very few ducklings. The late spring is even the reason why many flowers like this one were still in bloom at this time in the end of august. The late and cold summer means the reproduction failed for many of the duck-species of Europe this year, as Myvatn is an important breeding ground even for birds that spend parts of the year elsewhere. It is important to learn about how connected questions of climate, plants and animal reproduction really are, and that these questions have no geographical borders.
