The famous wreck of the cargo ship "Dimitrios" is located at an easily accessible beach at Valtaki, Gytheio, South Peloponnese, Greece. There are a lot of stories about how the vessel ran aground at that beach, but the most truthful says that the ship was docked at the port of Gytheio because the Captain was ill and needed medical assistance. After the ship's docking due to some financial and insurance issues that arose the crew were discharged and the owners let the vessel there. After some years the coast guard assessed that it isn't safe anymore for the ship to remain moored at the port and they ordered from a salvage company to tow the ship out of the port, to the anchorage. As the ship was anchored outside the port, the weather deteriorated and the ship dragged her anchor and eventually ran aground at shallow waters close to the beach. As time was passing the ship drifted by the winds and currents to the beach offering a beautiful site for visitors and of course photographers.
