This purple gallinule, identified for me by my son, was initially in the wetland reeds of the Green Cay area with its mother and siblings. As it came out in the open, it began to look for food among the reeds. I had seen common gallinule mothers teaching their young to do this, but it was the first time I had seen a purple gallinule.
