Owen's River Valley

In eastern California lies the Owen's Valley, an arid basin tightly nestled between the sheer, eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the western faces of the White and Inyo Mountains. The valley, one of the deepest in the United States, is home to once-mighty Owen's River, now lazy and near depleted--a result of the Los Angeles Aqueduct and the infamous California Water Wars of the early 1900's. But nowhere else is the dichotomy of desert and alpine environments so visible--a stark contrast of lush meeting arid that is a landmark of the Eastern Sierra.
