15th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
I loved the balance of this photo - the soft texture and feel of the leaf on the hard rock it was laying against, the slight mottling of the leaf color, not quite completely yellow, and the harder texture of the rock and mottled orange and brown colors. One part of nature, the leaf, soon to die and crumble and fly off in the wind, and the rock, ever present for thousands of years.
