Mother bluebird flies off holding mucous pouch from chicks.

How do bird keep their nest clean once the chicks start making waste? The chicks produce a mucous membrane ("fecal pouch") containing the waste so the parents can remove it. Here, the mother is flying off with a pouch she just removed.
