Looking Back at Me

The hoatzin is a primitive, chicken-sized bird of South American swamps, principally the Amazon and Orinoco rivers. This one was seen at riverside, outside my lodge room at the Napo Wildlife Center in the Ecuadorian Amazon. The hoztzin seemed happy to stay where he was for a long period of time. They are an awkward bird and can be heard crashing through the vegetation when they move.
