Great Sand Dunes at the base of the Sangre deCristo Mountains
The snow caped Sangre deCristo mountains with the Great Sand Dunes at the base of the mountain is breathtaking. This is a place of the unexpected, a place where the sand dunes and mountains meet in a beautiful display of power and majesty. Below the sand dunes is the Medono Creek, created by the snow spring run-off but it’s warm and in some places you get a cool surge of water flowing on your feet. Seeing the snow caped mountains and expecting a cool breeze on your face but getting the warmth from a sunny spring day and the hot sand under your feet is perplexing and awe-inspiring.
