Frost Flower

Neither frost nor a flower, this piece of curly ice was produced by a plant called white crownbeard. At night water wicks out of the dried stem. However, during freezing nights of the winter, the water freezes and curls into 'flowers' at night. These early winter jewels are found across the Ozarks of Missouri and Arkansas.
