Flamigo's taking offf from a salt pond before crossing Red Sea to Africa from Israel
Twice a year millions of birds migrate each Fall and Spring back and forth between Europe and Africa. They take the Syrian rift along an air current that carries them on their many thousand mile journey. But then they have to cross the Red Sea...with no draft to carry them. Israel has built a salt pond on the Gulf of Aqaba where they rest before completing their journey. I edged up to the pond as quietly as a could. But my slight movements sent this group of Flamingos into a frenzy of flight. I shot as quickly as a could and within seconds they were all gone.
