Desperate measures

In drought stricken central Kenya in September 2017 an African elephant resorts to scraping grass from the dusty plain to eke out a meal. He spends hours kicking the dirt with his toenails to free the grass threads from the abrasive soil that would otherwise grind down his teeth, hastening his death.
