13th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
It was recommended by our hosts in Jasper that early in the morning/evening were the best times to observe wildlife. So one morning at approximately 5:00 am my wife and I started driving east on Route 16. Not more than 5 miles outside of Jasper, we observed this very large animal grazing along side of the highway. Extremely excited, we moved closer, and saw that it was a giant Bull elk. It was our first wildlife sighting of our vacation and so overjoyed, we forgot to take our medication.
