16th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
I was driving in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone National Park one day in the middle of a blizzard in January 2017. The winds were sustained at 40mph and the snow was being blown all over.
All of a sudden this Coyote appeared out of the blowing snow. He came through the snow and sat down...he put his side against the wind...snow being packed into his fur and the side of his face and neck. He looked like he was taking a break from the force of the storm. His eyes were squinted and his tail held in close to his body. After a while the wind abated and he took off into the whiteness.
