Awakened, a Hawaiian monk seals assesses his surroundings

The photo shows one of the only 1,400 Hawaiian monk seals, as it rests on a beach east of Waikiki. The Hawaiian monk is the only tropical seal species left in the world and only lives in Hawaiian waters - 75% of them live in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. It was a treat to have this photo opportunity.
