16th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
Argiope aurantia / Alabama USA

This is Argiope aurantia, or commonly known as a Golden Garden Spider or Writing Spider. She was found outside my home. It took around 40 shots to get this one, but I think the time is worth it. She is one of the most common spiders in the southern part of North America and it very important to your local ecosystem.
