14th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
A soaring Ferruginous hawk south of Santa Fe, NM.

I was home visiting my mom in Santa Fe, NM for the month of September and every afternoon I kept hearing what I thought sounded like a seagull. Then I noticed this hawk hovering nearby. Spent most afternoons waiting for this hawk and its mate to show.
