16th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
A misty morning along a Lowcountry swamp in South Carolina.
During an evening, I viewed weather data in which fog was predicted at a State-owned wildlife management area for the next morning. I departed at early morning and, upon arrival, I prepared my photography equipment for the fog conditions during sunrise. Afterward, I selected the most uniquely shaped groups of bottomland trees (cypress and tupelo) among the eerie swamp and moderate owl hoots.
