A Giant Desert Centipede (Scolopendra heros) envenomating a grasshopper

While walking through the Sonoran Desert on a zoological field course in Arizona, fellow students and I stumbled across this huge centipede patrolling the substrate in the darkness of night. We followed the monstrous as it scuttled under a log. I gently lifted the log to reveal the centipede hunting a grasshopper!
