A Flower on the Sidewalk

I was taking what I like to call a 'Urban Hike" through the many hidden gardens of Washington, DC when I came across this flower in a bed right off the sidewalk. Its petals show the signs of Summer's wear and foreshadow its incorporation into the soil around it as it makes room for foliage of Fall and then soon after, the snow of Winter.
