A female Northern Harrier hunting in the Skagit Valley
The feathers around the ears of Northern Harriers are very similar to those of owls. These raptors hunt by flying low over fields, with the goal of scaring rodents into movement, which they can easily hear. This Harrier also frightened a large flock of female Redwing Blackbirds while on her hunt.
