A Brave New World
A night hike along a river in Southern Ecuador yielded many tiny froglets making their way from the river into the surrounding cloud forest. At first I thought they were Glassfrogs but further research indicates that this is likely a young Hyloscirtus alytolylax, a Hylid treefrog. This baby frog has just left the water within the hour and had crawled up onto a plant at the waters edge. It now prepares for life in a new terrestrial world with a whole new set of challenges.
