17th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest
Last summer I took a trip with a few friends to Canada. Our plan was to go to Banff National Park, but on the way we decided to go a little off route to really get to know Canada. During this detour we ended up at a small forgotten river that opened its way through path of mountains. When we arrived, we were determined to sat down and enjoy the view but something else was already waiting for us.
A group of Canadians were swimming, fishing and enjoying the afternoon. As soon as they saw us, they approached us and invited us to hang out. They offered us something to drink and we were surprised that they were drinking Mexican beer because we liked Canadian beer better. After a few laughs and jokes we were dared to jump into the cold water.
In this picture I’m trying to show what is a normal afternoon for people in Keremeos, Canada and how it is not necessary to go on a tour or travel a thousand miles to find the beauty in the world.
