Suri women have to get a lip plate at puberty. Plate’s diameter is a measure of their dowry. Girls have their two bottom teeth removed, then their mother makes a small incision in their lip and puts a peg in it until it heals. Few weeks later, the peg is removed and girls get their first clay plate.
