13th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
Photographed on a road trip through Utah and Arizona, I took this in Antelope Canyon. This work embodies movement in a seemingly stationary setting. There is an aspect of motion within this scene remaining from thousands of years ago when water carved the twisting canyon out of sandstone. It is for this reason I portray it in monochrome because the scene boldly asserts itself, no colors needed. The dancing contrasts between light and shadow are the focus of my work. I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I enjoyed shooting it.
