16th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
Winning a feather

My sister Kim tries her hand and succeeds at a game of skill at a Renaissance Festival. She went to college on a fast pitch softball scholarship, coincidentally. The first traveling carnival in the U.S. was in the 1800s but the first annual fair was held earlier - in the 1640s. This Renaissance Festival has been coming to Huntersville NC for the past 24 years.
