Metlakatla is home to the only native reserve in the state of Alaska. It is located on Annette Island in the most Southern part of S.E. Alaska. Members of the Tsimshian tribe originally traveled over by canoe from their home in British Columbia in 1887. Seeking religious freedom, they were following William Duncan, a missionary with the Church of England. Today the community of Metlakatla is a unique and welcoming place to witness the rich Tsimshian cultural heritage.
