14th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
This photograph shows a man named Paul that I met while attending college in Long Island NY. As a man who everyday is dressed to the nines, bowtie with curled mustache and all, I chose to shoot him in his most vulnerable form, without his wardrobe or character identity. We later discussed that these photographs reminded him of his African American heritage, as if they had been shot decades ago during the civil rights movement.
