This image depicts the ruins of the Officer's Quarters at Fort Union National Monument in New Mexico. Fort Union was the largest military fort in the Southwest. Fort Union, situated about 90 miles northeast of Santa Fe along the Santa Fe Trail, was the focal point, supply location and supporter of smaller military forts in the Southwest, as well as an important stop over for traders, travelers and emigrants along the Santa Fe Trail.
