No one enters anymore, Massachusetts School for Idiotic Children

Fernald State School (1848), opened in Waltham, Massachusetts, as the Massachusetts School for Idiotic Children. The school's first superintendent, Walter E. Fernald, was an advocate of eugenics. The school was intended as an educational facility for boys with low intelligence, but it effectively served as a prison for children whose only crime was being committed to the facility. It is scheduled for demolition.
