Image of a Woman Who Never Exisited
This photo appropriates advertising imagery that was located on Union Square in San Francisco. The fact that this advertisement is no longer being displayed is central to the idea of a simulacrum, which is defined as a referent-less sign, one that diminishes the distinction between reality and reproduction and produces a simulated experience of contemporary American culture.
