Zophia Kneiss, a local farrier in New Tazewell, TN, hot shoeing a horse. Zophia is an extremely talented metal artist, farrier, welder, and blacksmith. In this photo she is using a technique called hot shoeing, where the horse shoe is heated in a forge and is then put on the horses hoof. It insures better fitting for the horse. This does not hurt the horses in any way, as they have no feeling in their hooves. Sealing the hoof and custom fitting by hot shoeing is more healthy to do for the horse than shoeing without heating it.
