Bells and Whistles

While the origin on the expression "bells and whistles" is unlikely to have anything to do with railroads, a bell and a whistle have been required features on all American locomotives since the early days until present. This is an example from Shay steam locomotive on the Cass Scenic Railroad in West Virginia.
