16th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
The gate to Carl Sandburg's homestead.

As I was walking up to Pulitzer prize winning poet, Carl Sandburg's home in the village of Flat Rock, North Carolina, I noticed the delicate light coming from the field where his wife's champion dairy goats were grazing. When I captured this image of the gate, it felt as if I was doing a visual poem of his land.
