Sharing the road in Patagonian Argentina.

Minutes before passing into Chile from Argentina at Paso Rio Don Guillermo, our bus stopped for a sheep herd crossing the road. After 28 straight hours of driving across the Patagonian steppe, the herd was an interesting reminder of the industry that forever altered the ecosystems of southern Patagonia. The encounter also gave us a glimpse into the ongoing conflicts between international conservation groups and the local Estancias (the term used for the sheep ranches that dot the expansive landscape).
