Milky Way Maelstrom
After visiting Antonito, Colorado, I decided to head down to Santa Fe by way of Carson National Forest when one of the most spectacular things I have ever witnessed took place. A thunderstorm emerged in the distance at nightfall right as the stars began to appear. After following the storm around a couple of bends in the highway I turned off the road onto an unmarked desert path and lo and behold there was the galactic center of the Milky Way, rising like celestial smoke from the fiery maelstrom striking below. I stood awestruck as I photographed for over an hour, and to cap things off, a jealous meteor flashed across the calm upper regions of this seemingly endless sky.
