16th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
we all have dreams and aspirations. rarely does reality line up with these romantic notions. they're sullied. as humans we have a deep set tendency to yearn. to covet what we perceive to lack. contentedness is a rare feeling, and fleeting. this series is a visual representation of those dreams we seek, and the discontent we discover embedded within them.
The hole punch in each photo is inspired from the FSA photography movement lead by Roy Stryker. When images didn't line up with the Farm Security Administrations agenda in showing the plight of the American farmer, Stryker would hole punch them, so they wouldn't be used. Our own goals are often marred with trial and let down. It's up to the individual to find beauty and inspiration in the flawed result.
