A Fear of Large Crowds

I have an extreme fear of large crowds, which is a major contribution to my anxiety and fear of people in general. My fear of crowds stems from the idea of having no control over the other people surrounding me, nor the situation as whole. I usually have no knowledge of the others around me, therefore their actions are unpredictable and, in my mind, all directed towards me in a negative way, even though I subconsciously know that isn’t true. Clusters of people make me feel vulnerable and open, as if all eyes are on me and it is a feeling that I cannot control; It is a feeling that controls me, no matter how hard I try to prevent it. Through my piece, I wanted to express not only how I view strangers in groups, but also my feelings when I am put in a situation where multitudes of people are present. Photo manipulation, which includes duplication, textures, opacity changes, etc. was a very present part of my process in creating this piece and was important in creating a fearful and frightening atmosphere.
