Vulcan is the world’s largest cast iron statue; made of 100,000 pounds of iron and 56 feet tall, he stands at the top of Red Mountain overlooking the city of Birmingham. But Vulcan is more than just a statue—Vulcan Park and Museum features spectacular views of Birmingham, an interactive history museum that examines Vulcan and Birmingham’s story, a premier venue for private events, the Kiwanis Vulcan Trail, newly constructed Kiwanis Centennial Park and a beautiful public park for visitors and locals to enjoy. With an official information center operated by the Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau, Vulcan Park and Museum serves as the first stop for visitors to the Birmingham area!

Exhibits

For decades, the story of baseball in Birmingham was two stories. There was the Birmingham Barons, the city’s all-white baseball team once owned by illustrious iron magnate Rick Woodward and, later, businessman Charles O. Finley. And there was the Birmingham Black Barons, the Negro League powerhouse whose ranks included at various times both Satchell Page and Willie Mays.

From Factory to Field: The Dream of Baseball in Birmingham will feature artifacts that will give the Birmingham community a look into the fabled Black Barons and Barons. Rare artifacts including an autographed photo of baseball legend Willie Mays and a 1915 TCI League Championship team photo will be featured.

From Factory to Field: The Dream of Baseball in Birmingham includes new additions to the exhibit that was experienced over a decade ago. New artifacts from The Negro Southern League Museum and a special section honoring Charley Pride, a Birmingham Black Barons legend, is included.
