This whimsical wonderland invites you to leave real life at the door and enjoy an otherworldly escape. The Looking Glass is the first immersive art museum in Virginia, created by over a dozen Virginia artists to spark your imagination and captivate your sense of childlike wonder. Every corner packed with sound, light and color for a dreamland that ignites all your senses. Explore an enchanted forest with larger than life tactile and digital installations that invite you to walk through, sit in, and directly interact with the art. Relax in jungle hammocks, travel through a 50 foot caterpillar, influence massive elements of nature with your presence and motion using state of the art technology, play music on golden goddesses, get to know a friendly family of gnomes and more!

Exhibits

The Looking Glass is part of the IX Art Park, a nonprofit immersive art space dedicated to inspiring creativity in everyday life. Our outdoor piazza is a free gallery of engaging murals and sculptures, as well as home to a Saturday morning farmers' market. On the afternoon and evening of September 18, join us outside for Cville Sabroso, Charlottesville's annual Latin American culture festival.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
