The Talkeetna Historical Society Museum owns 6 historic buildings/structures in downtown Talkeetna. We perserve and promote Talkeetna region history including information on aviation, mountaineering, mining, railroad and the Susitna River as well as the local character of our village.
We begin our winter hours on September 18th. We are open from 11 am to 4 pm Saturdays and Sundays throughout the winter. The temporary exhibit highlighting the Michigan 59ers trip to Alaska in March of 1959 will be on exhibit until mid October. The Denali model, history of Alaska Railroad video and local artwork are always favorites to see.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
