Sankofa Children’s Museum of African Cultures is a first of its kind interactive children’s museum dedicated to the arts and cultures of the 54 countries that make up the continent of Africa.

Located in the historic Park Heights community of Baltimore, the museum was founded in 2016 by a team of former educators who recognized that community attachment and engagement are fundamental to addressing the disinvestment, blight, and social challenges underserved urban communities face.

One of the long-term goals of the city’s comprehensive 5-year Youth, Health and Wellness strategy is improving peer relationships and community connectedness. The museum’s programs are designed to raise self-awareness, increase self-esteem, develop social and cultural capital and promote meaningful community outreach and engagement. We provide hands-on interactive experiential learning experiences for underserved and at-risk youth.
