Located on eighteen acres across from the capital building, the Oklahoma History Center is a beautifully designed, self-guided exploration of Oklahoma—past to present. Within our 215,000 square-foot learning center are five galleries housing multiple hands-on audio, video, and computer activities.

Exhibits

"Launch to Landing: Oklahomans and Space"
This exhibit recognized all of the Oklahomans that contributed to the USA Aerospace Program.
The centerpiece is the actual command module for the Skylab 4 Apollo mission. Also in the
exhibit are various artifacts that flew in a number of the NASA missions, samples of "moon
rocks," graphics that explain the intricacies involved in space flight and much more.

Of course, there are four other permanent galleries that highlight the Native American culture,
oil and gas history, how commerce evolved in Oklahoma from the early 18th century to now, military
history, the Land Run and political/social events of Oklahoma.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
