The Charles H. Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center memorializes the history of our nation’s highest military award for valor, from the first medals in 1863 to the present, and educates the next generation of Americans about the six character traits associated with the gallantry of Medal recipients.

Exhibits

The National Medal of Honor Heritage Center features world-class exhibits and state-of-the-art technology for visitors to explore and interact with. Some exhibits include detailed vignettes, interactive models, videos, touch screens, and replicas such as a WW1 trench, Hacksaw Ridge, Vietnam-era living room, and Vietnam bunker!

New to the Heritage Center is Challenger Shuttle Commander Dick Scobee's Congressional Space Medal of Honor and artifacts. On temporary exhibition is a feature of Medal of Honor recipient James A. Graham.

Tours are on offer and are required to be scheduled ahead of your visit date.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
