Museum at Prairiefire

The Museum at Prairiefire is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to meaningful learning and engagement with science, culture, art and natural history.

As well as hosting a variety of dynamic, authentic Natural History, Science and Art exhibitions, the Museum at Prairiefire offerings include regular events, interactive activities and programs for adults and children.

See stunning artifacts from national and regional collections, let the kids explore in the the Discovery Room, or get out of this world with a Virtual Reality Experience. Join us for Science Happy Hour, Cinema & Science or bring out the kids for The Little Explorers Club. There’s something for everyone, and any age!

Exhibits

Exhibits on display included:
"Kanas City Natural History" invites you to go back three hundred million years ago to see the fascinating fossil remains when Kansas City’s home was on the paleoequator. This engaging exhibit brings to life the oceans, rain forests, palm trees, giant ferns, mastodons, mammoths and grizzly-sized sloths that populated the area millions of summers ago.

Travel back in time millions of years ago and millions of miles away in our "Astrophotography: Looking Out, Looking Back" exhibit.

In our "Discovery Room", kids get to enter a world of authentic hands-on science and interactive discovery. Explore major fields of scientific research, from anthropology to zoology. Excited and engaged, they will find an array of artifacts and specimens, live animals, puzzles, and scientific challenges to explore. We will also have animal presentations throughout the day, please check our website for specific times.

Just for Museum Day, we will be offering "Wetlands Trail" Tours throughout the day, please check at our Welcome Desk for exact times. Our "Great Hall" Scavenger Hunt will also be available for families to work on together. With three different levels, we have a Scavenger Hunt for all ages. Please check at our Welcome Desk to pick up a Scavenger Hunt worksheet.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis.
