A local history museum the McPherson Museum & Arts Foundation opened its new facility in November 2013. The new museum encompasses over 12,000 square feet of exhibit space featuring the 1936 Olympic basketball gold medal team, skeletons of a saber tooth cat, a dire wolf and a giant ground sloth, the USD #418 fine arts collection, meteorites and a fantastic model train display. We invite you to visit as we continue to complete and expand our exhibits! We are conveniently located at 1111 E. Kansas, McPherson, Kansas and we are open Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. The museum also offers rental facilities for parties, meetings and receptions; check our website for more information.
The front lobby cases features “Memories of McPherson,” a collection of photos and memorabilia from the history of the community. The main exhibit hall features historical items from McPherson’s history and a model train exhibit; the Discovery and Innovation area of the museum exhibits work by famed professors from McPherson College.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis.
