The museum is located at Camp Dodge in Johnston, Iowa just north of Des Moines. Camp Dodge is the headquarters of the Iowa National Guard under the leadership of Adjutant General Major General Benjamin Corell.

The Iowa Gold Star Military Museum is dedicated to honoring and telling the stories of Iowa military heroes from 1846 to the present.

Exhibits

The exhibits highlight battles that feature Iowa service men and women showcasing original military vehicles and artifacts.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
