We will be open for Museum Day on Sunday, September 19, 2021!

Historic Smithville Mansion c.1840 was built in the Greek revival style by the Shreve brothers, Samuel and Jonathan who between 1831 and 1855 operated a textile manufacturing factory in the village known then as Shreveville.

In the 1865 Hezekiah B. Smith and his wife Agnes Gilkerson Smith, purchased the property. Hezekiah, an inventor and industrialist, was the owner of a wood working machine company and operated the factory which built the first “American Star Bicycle” of which is on display within the museum.
