Stetson University’s “earth science museum in a natural setting,” with a mission to educate about geology, mineralogy, and environmental science. The museum houses a collection of 15,000 minerals; its grounds and the adjacent Rinker Environmental Learning Center allow Stetson faculty and undergraduates to contribute to museum programming.

The Gillespie Rocks: During this Science Saturday, visitors of all ages will have a chance to view the museum’s mineral collection, and begin or add to their own. James Smithson will be on hand.

Special highlight: Women in STEM. An archaeologist, a conservator, a micro-biologist, a herpetologist, a plant ecologist, a curator....and more. Learn about their work at the museum, and beyond.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
