The Museum & Welcome Center, opened May 5, 2018 was a starting point for exploring and discovering Fulton County, OH's natural, cultural and historical resources. The museum structure, which is a recreation of the first county courthouse, honors the pioneer families of the county by telling their stories (including the famous racecar driver Barney Oldfield).

The motto, "Find your way, or make your own way" becomes part of the entertaining, informative, and interactive journey of exploration through the museum's permanent and special exhibition galleries.

Our mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret artifacts and written records pertaining to Fulton County. The Fulton County Historical Society uniquely provides to a diverse audience, access to experience Fulton County's local cultural history through a research facility, programs, demonstrations, and exhibits at its various sites.

Experience thirteen rooms that showcase permanent historic exhibits of hidden historical gems—including rare Native American artifacts, the Tiffany & Co. presentation sword of Brigadier General Edwin Hayes, a prized Amish-Mennonite Jacob Werry Blanket Chest and the infant cradle of famed race car driver Barney Oldfield.

Listen to locally written abolition hymns of the Underground Railroad movement in the county, see the crackling campfire of local Civil War soldiers, investigate who was living in each township during the war on an 1858 map, and search relative’s names from the county’s GAR roster in a temporary exhibit designed to honor the war’s sesquicentennial. The museum’s extensive collection of Civil War era artifacts are the impressive centerpiece of this exhibit.
