We aim to stimulate interest in Fauquier County and Virginia history by preserving the evidence of our past, connecting it to our present and educating the community about its importance to our future. The Fauquier Historical Society has over 300 members dedicated to preserving Fauquier County's rich history. We maintain a local museum, housed in an 1808 jail, in Warrenton beside the Fauquier County Courthouse.

Exhibits

Situated in both Fauquier County's 1808 and 1823 jails, the museum offers unique exhibits both about jail life and the rich history of Virginia's rural life. Museum exhibits are a mix between permanent and temporary exhibits.

Location

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
